Official Opening Ceremony - by Kai Wen

I feel honoured to be able to attend the Official Opening Ceremony. It had proven to be a heartening night when we celebrated our school opening with all the guests and our Guest of Honour, Mr K Shanmugan, Minister of Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC.

After the introduction of the "No Heavy School Bags Program" and the "Every Child Holistic Program", Mr K Shanmugam proceeded with the official opening of the Indoor Sports Hall. Our principal, Mr Chia, School Advisory Committee Chairman, Mr Peter Chew, and Mr K Shanmugam had expressed their earnest speeches and extended their congratulations to Endeavour’s accomplishment over the past 2 1/2 years.

Our school Wushu, Malay dance, Guzheng, Chinese Dance and Choir had brought us wonderful performances. They had all done well in the recent SYF competition and I do have faith that they will excel in the coming years.

The ceremony started at 5.50pm and ended at 8pm. My heart was full of delights when I sang out loud "If We Hold on Together" and our lovely school song. Everyone waved and laughed heartedly. We drew a memorable end to the night.

Alliteration

Alliteration is the use of the same consonant sounds in words that are near each other. It is the sound, not the letter, that is important: therefore ‘candy’ and ‘Cindy’ do not alliterate, but ‘cool’ and ‘kids’ do.

Betty Botter by Mother Goose

Betty Botter bought some butter,
but, she said, the butter’s bitter;
if I put it in my batter
it will make my batter bitter,
but a bit of better butter
will make my batter better. So she bought a bit of butter
better than her bitter butter,
and she put it in her batter
and the batter was not bitter.
So ’twas better Betty Botter
bought a bit of better butter.

Order of Adjectives

Adjectives are describing words. If I say "John is playing with a blue ball." then the word "blue" describes the colour of the ball.

Write a poem by repeating the first line but each time adding another adjective.

For example:

On my way to the zoo I saw a bear.
It was a brown bear.
It was an ugly, brown bear
It was a wild, ugly, brown bear
It was an angry, wild, ugly, brown bear
It was a hungry, angry, wild, ugly, brown bear
It was an escaped, hungry, angry, wild, ugly, brown bear
And it wanted to eat me!

Now create your own start sentence and get creative (If you’re stuck, use the sentence about John)
